    • Track Width: Enter the total width of your drapery track or rod in inches.
    • Finished Height: Enter the desired finished height of your drapery panel in inches.
  2. Set Returns and Overlaps:
    • Left and Right Returns: Enter the measurement (in inches) from the wall to the front of your track or rod.  If no return, leave space empty.

Select your desired fullness (100%, 150%, 200%, etc.). Fullness determines how gathered your drapery will appear.

  4. Panels and Hem Allowances:
    • Draw: Select either one-way opening or center split.  Center split will calculate two equal panels.
    • Header and Footer: Select your preferred hem allowances (in inches) for both the top (header) and bottom (footer).  The amount selected with add additional height when calculating fabric requirements.  As an example, selecting a 4" header will add an additional 8" in overall height.  The additional height is used for the hem.
  5. Calculate Yardage:

Click the Calculate button to view the total yards needed (rounded up to the nearest quarter-yard) and estimated weight, including a standard polycotton lining.  Weights can be used to determine which motor to use in a motorized solution.

Fabric Calculator FAQ

How does the calculator determine how much fabric I need?

The calculator estimates fabric yardage based on dimensions entered, including track width, finished height, returns, overlaps, fullness, panel numbers, and allowances for headers and footers. Yardage is rounded up to the nearest quarter-yard.

What does "Fullness" mean?

Fullness refers to the amount of fabric gathered or pleated compared to the width of your drapery track. For example, 100% fullness means twice the fabric width compared to the track width.

What are "Returns" and "Overlaps"?

Returns are the distances the drapery travels back towards the wall from the front of the track. Overlaps indicate how much one drapery panel overlaps another at the center of the track for better privacy and light blockage.

What do "Header" and "Footer" mean?

These measurements represent additional fabric allowances at the top (header) and bottom (footer) edges of your drapery, accommodating sewing hems and hardware attachments.  As an example, selecting a 4" header will add an additional 8" in overall height to account for the hem.  An 8" selecting will add an additional 16".

Does the calculated weight include lining?

Yes, the calculator automatically includes the weight of a standard polycotton lining in its calculation.  Unique Fine Fabrics does not provide lining, please confirm weight of lining from your workroom supplier.

How accurate is the calculator?

This calculator provides an estimated fabric requirement. Actual yardage can vary based on specific workroom practices or customizations. Always confirm the quantities with your workroom before placing an order.

Does the calculator account for fabric repeat patterns?

Yes. The calculator factors in vertical fabric repeat patterns, ensuring alignment of designs across panels.
